I believe permissible gallonages exist for wine and beer...distilled liquior is a 'horses neck' of a different color...
Horses Neck is/was a great New Zealand wine..made from white grapes...I doubt if it's even sold here in the states...

I just came back from visiting my grandmother (97 years old) in Huntington, and I wanted to bring back some of West VA Distillery's Moonshine for some of my friends, but the local liquor store had almost no WV spirits. If the stores in WV can't bring themselves to feature local distilleries how will it ever catch on? I would rather see distilleries springing up left and right in WV than gambling. I guess that is my one left-over religious prejudice.

ha ha ha...how will it ever catch on? I believe only one or two companies make it legally...it's the illegal 'white lightning that made our reputation. A great pride is taken in these private stocks...a rich tradition is being carried on. Here's the way it works, Bobilee...Dope/Marijuana is manufactured/grown in Canada by the 3rd generation of the Capone people..distributed almost over the same routes that brought the Canadian whiskey here in the 30's. Cleveland and Chicago the hubs of that industry. The moonshine business here is pretty well left untouched...as a lot of killing would go on to take it over and that would make the newspapers...It's left quietly to the people..called 'part of the peoples pot...meaning pot of money...the mob never took all of it...just a portion...numbers racket the same...took 30%..gave the people 30% and the 'runner 30%....was really almost like taxation today...60% ...things is the 'numbers were voluntary and a winner...play the same number everyday and you would win eventually.

The limits may vary by state, but in most states, you're allowed to produce up to 100 gallons of beer or wine, per adult in the household, up to a total of 200 gallons.
You're allowed to give it away, but you may not sell it.

Marijuana is also grown in southern WV:
"Mingo County ... On Thursday, troopers found more than 10,000 plants as large as 12 to 15 feet tall .... The approximate street value of the recovered marijuana is close to $21.3 million.
Troopers in Mason County have found nearly $19.8 million of marijuana so far in 2008, but have only made 8 arrests.
Cpl. C.K. Zerkle of the county's State Police detachment said that in the past two helicopter flights more than 5,700 plants have been found in various fields around the county.
After a flight Wednesday, troopers reported they located and claimed 1,004 marijuana plants out of seven plots Zerkle said were "in the middle of nowhere." One arrest was made after that flight.
Last week, an estimated 4,700 plants were confiscated, at a street value of about $10,340,000.
"For every 10,000 plants we find, 25,000 are missed," Zerkle said."

I know many people who moved here in the 70's. Grew huge plots of pot and used the money to buy farms for 20-30 grand. Now they are worth....well, a lot more!
It's one of the reasons why lots of people, especially elderly people I know, are not fond out outsiders moving in again. I used to work for the state travelling to provide services to the elderly. I was very surprised to hear this brought up so much.
Lots of busts locally in my part of the state in the last few weeks. Nothing that big though.

Hahaha, 100% correcto-mundo, Buzz.
Anyway, there would be a great market for West Virginia liquor out-of-state. Kentucky brings in millions of dollars to their state through their distilleries, some of it from West Virginians. Even "Georgia Moon" corn whiskey is made in Kentucky. Here is the Isaiah Morgan Distillery in Summersville. The owner passed away a few years ago, but it is continuing operations.
American Whiskey: Isaiah Morgan Rye Whiskey; Southern Moon Corn Liquor
