It depends on what you're looking for and what your interests are.
New Martinsville / Grafton area def has a southern feel to it. You'll see a lot of 'mom and pops' type places with a real value and appreciation for the working class individual. Those towns have been industry, mostly coal ran for many years... and while that industry is not once the force it once was, it is still certainly a big part of the community.
If you love hunting, fishing, the outdoors, peace, knowing the sheriff on a first name basis... then you'll love it there.
If being in a City with trendy franchise stores on every corner, then this is NOT the place for you.
Good Luck.

I moved to Grafton about 10 years ago. You can get a pretty good deal on RE out here. The folks around here are all real nice. We get a few inches of snow and then it melts off, then a few more, and back and forth pretty much all winter. Summer's great, nothing like listening to the locusts on a warm June day and then when the evening comes around the lightening bugs come out and the frogs start croaking. Very peaceful and quiet. some of the old downtown isn't in the best of shape and there are a lot of stores that are empty. But we do have a Wal-mart and they're building a new Walgreen's and a new bank. It's the home of Mother's Day and the place where the first person was killed in the Civil War. There is a National Cemetery here and they have a big Memorial Day Parade every year.

HUGE coal mine on the edge of Grafton's Rt 50 now...and It was a Railroad town..
The Roundhouse and repair facility during the Civil War put it on the map.
It was a 1900's travel hub, much like Chicago and St Louis are now.
Grafton's coming back..great little place.

Buckhannon has been my home for almost 30 years. We have an ever increasing 55 and older population, and many people choose to retire to here even if this is not there "Home"... It is beautiful, safe, clean, friendly ,low taxes etc. We are close to severla great lakes and fishing, hunting etc. The best website for listings is www.findwvrealestae.com I have been in the business for 14 years. But i also raised five great kids here... My Mom and one brother are here.
