No road stimulus projects for Wood County
Quote:
PARKERSBURG - Officials expecting to have at least some of the proposed $27 million in Wood County road projects started this summer as a result of the federal stimulus package got the rug pulled out from under them. ...
... Of 109 ready-to-go items eligible for incoming federal stimulus dollars none are in Wood County, one of the most heavily populated counties in the state. ... "The expectations far outreach the resources we've got to put toward these projects," he said.

Wasn't there just a huge and really expensive bridge built in Parkersburg?

Manchin seems to be particularly upset with Parkersburg for some reason. Just recently he managed to have the Community College there stripped of its highly coveted official connection to WVU in spite of the fact that absolutely nobody, in Parkersburg or in Morgantown, wanted that to happen.
The King of Dork did manage to find the camera at the National Governors Meeting, however. He has an incredible talent for doing that.

The Mon-Fayette expressway has been in the works for 20-25 years, Corridor H was started when my parents were in high school in the early 1970's. Which is one of the last remaining ARK highway projects, and desperately needed east/west route from central WV to the Atlantic. Route 9 is being pushed to the front burner because of the massive population increase in the EP. According to Manchino and the other politics they tried to divide the money evenly between the first, second, and third districts. With the 2nd (Corridor H) receiving the least.
So maybe they're just trying to be fair. Parkersburg is the 3rd largest city in the state. However, Parkersburg and Wood county are also losing population. The projects getting funding are all in areas experiencing population growth and increasing demand.

That's true, but while the Mon/Fayette is needed, it is not the greatest need in the Morgantown area. The greatest needs are in the downtown area... Beechurst, Route 705, Mileground, Westover. You'd think they would have put money into Beechurst first. Of course, having PA basically complete their section of the Mon/Fayette might have something to do with it. Old Gov. Photo Op wouldn't want to be seen as lagging now, would he?
