Looking for a vacation and/or retirement area.
We live in KY and really miss the mountains. We have 4 boys and would love to have a couple of acres or so to visit and maybe someday retire to. We would prefer that it be within an hour of skiing and also in a decent town (not a bunch of crime).
If anyone has any suggestions they would be greatly appreciated. No mobile homes or anything really run down as we don't have time for the maintenance. No meth-labs next door either. We have the same problems next door in KY so please don't take it personally. Love WV!!!
We are not rolling in $$$ so a half million for a ski condo is not in the cards.
Thanks a bunch in advance to you all!!!

The biggest ski area in WV is Snowshoe, between Marlinton and Elkins in Pocahontas County. There are ski condos on site (might be a good time to buy), but plenty of land if you look in and around towns like Edray, Marlinton, Hillsboro, Green Bank, etc.
One site to visit would be Red Oak Realty.

The Elkins/Randolph County area is within range of 3 ski resorts within an hour, and you can be to Deep Creek Lake in less than an hour and a half. We have some of the cheapest taxes in the state, I guess that is one thing we can thank the republicans for ha ha. Home prices are outrageous near the ski resorts but the further you get from them the cheaper land/homes are. I'll give you some links for realtors in the Elkins area that you can check out. They have homes/land available throughout the area.
We live 10 miles east of Elkins in the mountains towards Canaan Valley and Timberline Resorts. Beautiful area! The area has everything you could possibly need for a vacation. Trains, fishing, hiking, biking, skiing, mtn climbing, festivals, cultural heritage, concerts,
Here are some raaltors you can check out properties from
Johnson Realty: West Virginia Real Estate - Elkins, WV
Coldwell Banker Hometown - Mineral County - Your Perfect Partner®
Propst Realty
Seneca Realty Company-Your Key to Satisfaction! Elkins WV Real Estate
When I was browsing myself I found this home, and it seems to fit your description perfectly.
Propst Realty
4-5 wooded acres and a big enough house for your 4 boys, yet only 5 minute drive to Elkins, within an hour or so to 3 ski resorts.

Thank you all so much. We are planning to come to WV this summer and rent a cabin so we can really look around. Our boys just love the great outdoors and the mountains but our cabin in Colorado is just too far away so we thought this would be a great new family tradition. We are now thinking that we may just buy a wonderful piece of land and build a small cabin that we can add to over the years. If anyone has any other suggestions or thinks of something that may be of help I would appreciate it.
Thanks again!!!

A note to users whoa re looking for their Shangrila...
Usually, low crime rate is one of the top things people want to find. Once found, it is only a matter of time that word of mouth brings more people to the area. Crime follows the people. It also follows money, but at the top of the list is people. So... if you do find your Shangrila, please do not tel anyone what state you are in when you found it. That way, it will stay the way you found it.
Maybe I should tell you how Walt Disney managed to buy so much land in Central Florida for the construction of what is now Walt Disney World. It involved not telling anyone what the plan was, and using dozens of people to make these purchases so it never looked like just one corporation or one individual buying up properties.

I don't believe that can be printed on a family forum.
