It should probably be pointed out that the co-producers are the guy who put Jesco White on the map with Dancing Outlaw... and Johnny Knoxville. So yeah, this will be crazy. I can't wait. No, really. Jesco may be a walking stereotype, but he's a damn legendary walking stereotype

If the shock is diminished, eventually the model will become common and acceptable.

These venues are crafted by groups and they make money from this.

What really drives it?

Evil, in the hearts of men...don't believe me? Ask Lamont Cranston..he knows!

Role models of my youth were Roy Ridgers, The Lone Ranger, Sky King..mostly cowboys doing good and a distinction and strong characterization of the bad.

Today the role model is a huge funny animal in a fuzzy purple suit speaking with a lisp.
A personification of weakness right down to not even speaking clearly.
Even the hand an arm gestures with the dialog show insecurity.

Jesco and his kind will never be "acceptable". That's the whole point--they don't care. It's the whole "anti-hero" thing, the guy who does things his way with no apologies. If ya get right down to it, it's the American ideal played to its illogical extreme...

I watched the preview..... Pretty disturbing stuff. However, I am from Ohio and people like that exist there too.

I understand the artistic perspective of this movie, however, I think it is not meant to be degrading to all West Virginians. Johnny Knoxville simply knows how to peak peoples interest and sell DVD's. Shock sometimes has more relevance when it is real.

I mean, you want to see something depressing and similarly degrading to a section of the country watch the "Dateline" (I think it was) special on Appalachian life that focues on Eastern Kentucky. It's simply disturbing to see that that of reality.

Personally, as I see it, while it could be taken as a 'stereotype of WV', it may actually be more of a hit at them as a family, rather than us as a state. Yes, the sad truth is that there are families like this... but they are NOT just located in WV. As mattbward said, there are some in OH, but let us not forget other places in the country, KY,AL, MS, etc... There are probably some in every state you can name.

This story is meant, as previously stated, to show an "anti-hero", but by no means a role model.

Besides, johnny knoxville was probably trying to exploit the family in some way... so in essence, i feel bad for THEM.
