Default Earthquakes

WSAZ is reporting a 3.4 in Meigs County Ohio this morning. The earthquake was first reported at 9:42 a.m. Friday. It was felt in Gallipolis and Point Pleasant. This is to close to home for me! I don't think our house could stay standing in a 3.4! Yikes!

I wonder if there is a fault line near me? Anyone know if there is a map online of the fault lines in WV?

I use this map to monitor quakes, but this Ohio quake doesn't show up, probably no sensors in Oh. and WV.
IRIS Seismic Monitor

WV had a small quake in the south a few years ago, it was thought to be a collapsing coal mine in Va.

Default Earth quakes

The earthquake websites you can find a few online and you can even subscribe to their newsletter. You would be surprised to see all the Earthquakes that take place daily all over the world and many are under the seas. Fault lines are all over the place, and any state can get Earthquakes. As you know, some states are more prone to them. Also the pacific ocean is more prone to them, and down in the south pacific oceans. There must be a website that tells where all the fault lines are. 3.4 sounds scary. I hope you and all are safe.

Relatively few people across the US noticed that Yellowstone experienced over 200 quakes on Dec. 22, 2008. While quakes are common in the park, that many in one day was a bit alarming.

Yes...a fault line does come to us...from Arkansas to West Virginia...the last big quake was in the early 1800's...rivers ran backwards for hours...it's in the history books...

Calm down, an earthquake with a Richter Magnitude of 3.4 can barely be felt. Richter magnitude scale - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Here is a map of the Faults in West Virginia: Link

Thanks for the link 7th!

I've never been in an earthquake, and I don't want to! 3.3 is what they are saying it was now. People are reporting pictures falling off walls and houses moving. Sounds like they could feel it to me!

Yep, call me a whimp! But I don't want the ground moving under me! )

Latest Earthquakes - Last 7 Days
Here is a website that I have in my favorites and check it almost every day. I am slipping today. You mentioned this earthquake before I saw it. I don't suggest that you move to California. They have less activity today than normal. Some days the entire state of California is covered in one pointers.

If you and your friends noticed things changing at this low point, you must have been just about at the center of the quake.

There was an earthquake in the same area in the 1970s and one in the 1980s. Don't remember the magnitude though.

I was in a real earthquake in California once. They are scary.
