A great beginning swimmin' hole is at Audra State Park...you can find that one with the maps.

But the grandeur of West Virginia is at Arden...near Philippi...follow the roads that follow the Cheat.

Why is the Cheat so special...no mud...water is polished by the rocks...and treacherous if the least bit swift.
Find a pool to your liking and don't take any chances...

Was named Cheat River for a very good reason. Clean enough to Scuba...

I lived for 15 years in the Brewster, NY - Danbury, CT area. It's almost impossible to beat Upstate NY for the incredible diversity and sheer number
of large, clean lakes. One thing to note, however, is that the swimming season will last a few weeks longer in West Virginia and except for the area between Charleston and Huntington (which is largely flat or low rolling) the lakes in West Virginia are surrounded by beautiful mountains.

I love audra for swimming. We are taking my daughter's fiance there this summer to teach him how to swim. It can also be dangerous if the water is high.

First time I went there with a friend, she told me to go get the kids out of the water because we could hear thunder off in the distance. After I got the kids out she told me about a time back in the late 70's when her kids were caught in a flash flood. They had to be rescued off one of the big rocks by the campground.

if you are looking for lake...burnsville or flatwoods are probably the closest...my friend and i were looking for lake swimming last year and wound up in braxton county (which was fine since that is where we are both originally from) if you are looking for a pool, bridgeport, clarksburg and shinnston all have great pools and there is a wave pool at fairmont that is really fun and cheap
