We won't be bringing much money for food with us, as we have a cooler to put any road kill we come across on the way down. We eat everything...skunks, possum, deer. Husband...who is my cuzin too by the way.... says says we can cook out any germs. I hope our new neighbors will come join us for a bar-b-q where we can share new road kill recipes and we can put all the food to good use. You'll be first on our invite list Hinton!
LOL.....That's hilarious MistyVT.

Hey thanks to everyone for your thoughts and chuckles! We will be driving in with all of our teeth, but will be loaded with banjo, tin whistle, and a trunk full of bluegrass music! No THAT gets me excited- the music! Needless to say, opportunities for good music, good food, and summer festivities are not so abundant in Interior, rural Alaska.

Seriously? Harper's Ferry is part of DC metro? Wow...

I just drove through West Virginia on my way home to Michigan. I've never met a West Virginian, but I CAN say that WV is very beautiful. I was driving through the mountains last saturday when it was all cloudy and I couldn't see the tops of the mountains. And the mountains were literally carpeted in trees. It was so untouched. That and the clouds gave everything a mysterious feel, as if I was the first person to ever go through there. I'd never seen anything like it.

Anyway, I'm not a rural type guy, but just thought I'd give my two cents as a traveler passing through.

LOL, no, but I get that a lot. I'm from the Lower Peninsula, I just like Mackinac Island.

By the way, I relate to the negative state stereotypes. When people think of Michigan they think if Detroit, Flint, and little else. Then people see other parts of Michigan (like the U.P) and they go "I had no idea!"

Pisses my husband right off - He's a Yooper. And the U.P. stereotypes are very similar to WV stereotypes. Toothless, uneducated, backwoods hicks. The stereotype is part of the reason we're looking so heavily at WV. We're hoping for a more U.P.-like way of life.

I'm also not a native of WV. My family moved here in 1999. I never want to live anywhere else. I love the land, the people and the culture. I'm hoping that all my children can find work here so they don't have to live anywhere else either! I just found out that my daughter is expecting a baby! She's due Dec 24th. What better place to raise a child than WV? This will be my first grandchild and I'm so excited that she or he will be born (at home) here in WV.
