Snakes
I forgot I was supposed to ask about snakes too. What do you have and where? Specifically water mocassins and other poisonous types.

Why do our state websites use .pdf files so heavily? I loathed them when I had 12k dialup, not a problem now though.
Our poisonous snakes are the Copperhead and the Rattlesnake, although it's said that even a black snake can make you ill if it bites.
I have a pic of a 90 lb. rattler (or was it 60lb) taken in Ritchie county and there's usually one per year discovered in Wirt co.
Every snake I've come upon has been slithering away from me as fast as it could slither. Given a fair chance, snakes will avoid you like the plague.
Water snakes are very common and from experience I'll say that for every one you see there are 20 more very near it.

2-rivers, lets see the pic! I really do not like snakes, but once when traveling in AR a coworker took me out for a drive. We stopped at her friends house and he had just killed a VERY large rattlesnake and it was so pretty! The colors were sooooo nice, and he gave me the "rattle" part! I was looking at it and going on about it and he took out his pocket knife, cut it off and handed it to me. It still had "gooey" stuff on it. I asked for a baggie, he asked my coworker where I was from she replyed "North" like I was from NYC!! His wife came out with a baggie. I still get teased about it!
Long story sorry, but I would like to see your pic

Last year, we had a great info blog going on snakes...
We are waiting/watching for Elmer to come out of hibernation...if she hasn't died from old age.
The Starlings certainly need a little weeding.

We have a lot of copperheads here. And lots of black snakes. I love our black snake. She's been around for several years now. Comes back every spring. She comes to the yard and steals the baby doves out of the pines. They say black snakes are supposed to keep the copperheads. I have a picture on my computer somewhere of a copperhead napping at our back door. I'll post if I can find it.

Snakes have a certain level of intelligence.
Our Elmer knows she is safe at our home.
She weighed over 10 lbs last year and was over 7 feet long..
Imposing for sure. They will kill and eat copperheads...squeeze them...
You need more Blacksnakes.

I would move......
Occasionally you'll hear of a copperhead in my neck of the woods, but 90% of the snakes I see are either black snakes or garter snakes. The black snakes can get fairly large though, and they're decently fast too. But they are harmless, aside from a possible bite. But deep in the woods, and I mean deep you can find the timber rattlesnake. Not my favorite little guy in the woods. I HATE SNAKES! I don't kill them or anything but I want them farrrrr away from me.
This is a baby rattler. It's tail isn't very long and only has a few of the rattlers.
