Any Libertarians here?
I used to be a Republican and was even on the Kanawha County Republican Executive committe but they were too wishy washy. I think Government and politicians are the cause of all the problems we are dealing with now. Apparently the Libertarians can't get a foothold in this state. I remember them at the ribfest trying to get signatures and people walking by shaking their heads no.

Know what is ironic -- I always thought Libertarians were far left wing liberals. Guess that better now describes the Democrats.
Still had NO idea until you asked this question and I looked it up online.
Guess it is Liberty not Liberal.
Their website says
Quote:
"Libertarians believe in the American heritage of liberty, enterprise, and personal responsibility."
"Libertarians believe the answer to America's political problems is the same commitment to freedom that earned America its greatness: a free-market economy and the abundance and prosperity it brings; a dedication to civil liberties and personal freedom that marks this country above all others; and a foreign policy of non-intervention, peace, and free trade as prescribed by America's founders." Issues | Libertarian Party
|
Guess I am still confused.
The dictionary defines liberal as
Quote:
* favorable to or in accord with concepts of maximum individual freedom possible, esp. as guaranteed by law and secured by governmental protection of civil liberties.
* favoring or permitting freedom of action, esp. with respect to matters of personal belief or expression: a liberal policy toward dissident artists and writers.
* characterized by generosity and willingness to give in large amounts

but yet it is the "liberals(Democrats) " vs the "conservatives (GOP) " with the liberals wanting to increase govt, increase govt control, spread the wealth, etc.
Someone please give me a civics lesson.
BTW, I have been a Democrat forever but often vote Republican. The way things have been going, I may never vote for another Democrat again.

It happened after Jimmy Carter's fiasco presidency...the Dems became the Repubs..and the Repubs became the Dem's...
Ronald Reagan was the catalyst...now it's going to the center with the Dems and the Repubs being the same...a One Party System...and also going socialist, because that the direction of the flow of money..
It's always the money...always.

Wait a minute...You always talk about the Obama administration transforming this country into a socialistic state but you don't even know the difference between libertarian and liberal?
And politcally intelligent people aren't easily fooled...the conservatives can say all they want about less government, less goverment, blah blah yet they want the government to tell people who can get married, that an individual can't choose to have an abortion, that we should be legislated by their bible, that we should blindly enter wars, etc. I don't think the Republican Party has much of a future as long as they continue to court the radical Christian right.

Because I know nothing about the Libertarian party I have no right to make observations on Obama's administration?
Are you kidding me?
Which BTW, Obama is not a dictator, he doesn't act alone, he gets the "blame" because he is the figurehead.
Chances are the Republicans would have gone down the same path in many ways, although if they had, they probably would have had the media on them like an attack dog.
1. DK has it right. The lines are all now confused and intermingled.
2. I have been a Democrat since 18 yrs old & I'm now older than the mountains. The party I joined stood for personal freedoms and equal opportunities regardless of race or gender. Opportunities being the key word here -- not hand-outs. As with so many things, actions on issues which started out good have been abused and distorted.
I expect our government and President, whether Dem or GOP, to serve within the laws established by the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.
I'm stunned the Feds are not being called to task for their actions.
I wonder what our founding fathers would think since the Democratic-Republican party origins stood for....

Nobody said you didn't have a right to make observations about Obama's administration by not being aware of different political ideologies...you stretched that about as far as it would go. I was just kind of shocked that you didn't know that considering you seem to be quite smart in many other political fields.
Even though I don't always agree with everything you say I gave you rep points for explaining about the Democratic Party and what you felt it once stood for. I guess since I'm young I don't really see a lot of hand-outs being given but then again I am from a generation that seems to expect everything under the sun right when they want it. By the way just like it seems to me you have somewhat conservative leanings, I am by no means a staunch liberal.

Didn't even really notice that part so no need to explain the sarcasm.
