Moving to Wv
Hi i will be moving to wv in late january i was wondering in anyone could tell me where is a good place to live? I have small kids so the schools and the neighborhood has to be good. I Need a area with jobs i currently work in accounting in chicago. My parents live in bluefield wv and i spent alot of time there as a child we moved to chicago when i was 7 or eight. I was researching hunnington, beckley, or bluefeild. Its seems bluefield doesnt have a lot of jobs. I am looking to rent a house and i want to find a nice decent neighborhood to raise my kids. Thank you for your answer

have you given any thought to Morgantown -- home of WVU -- great town great schools and ranked as one of top 5 small communities to live in a recent survey by the Washington Post or some such newspaper or magazine

I know there is more crime and traffice in the city , i am hoping there are more jobs. I am just trying to find a safer area to raise my kids.

Try Princeton and Beckley, they are small but they are good towns. Also, you can look south of Bluefield, across the Va line, there is a town called Abington (sp), but I don't know much about it.

I live in sw WV
Bluefield floods, so be care when you look for homes..even a small creek can overflow after a rain. Beckley , same thing.
Corruption in city leaders is widespread vote buying, dirty politics, .no one does any thing to stop it..just shrugs their shoulders with a " what can you do ?" attitude..
VERY rural mountain type people..friendly, but not welcoming I like to say. clannish .
hospitals and health care marginal...not much updated equipment or services . many of the dr.s come here after being recruited from overseas. a MAJORITY of the citizens are obese, and smoke..I have never seen so many smokers in my life..they even smoke in public bldgs ! ( bowling alleys, water company, etc ) .
horrendous roads..especially in the winter. They are narrow, twisty, winding..dangerous drop offs..no street lights..holler boys take the turns at 50 mph on a full size ATV and usually will be on the wrong side of the road, coming towards you. Yes, ATV on public roads ! They ride them at night, with children on the back , no helmets, no insurance, at 50 mph !
car insurance btw is triple what I have ever paid anywhere else. look into this before buying I say.
good luck..I am on my way out..could not take it anymore.

citygrl, im afraid cubmom is right. Alot of young West Virginians head across the border when they graduate to Ohio. To cities like Cincinnati, Cleveland and Columbus. They head there for the jobs, better oppurtunity, and probaly the club scene. Where i work probaly 10% of the people come from West Virginia. Thats a high number because there are alot of people that work here from across the nation and the world. I live up in Cleveland and in my development we probaly have 5 families from WV so far and my development is only in its second stage. Alot of them are very happy to be out of WV. They tell me all the time the oppurtunity down there was horrible.
When we head on vacation down south on I-77 the roads are horrible. They have potholes and the dropoffs are really quite scary. We stopped in Virginia on our way home before entering WV for the night because the dropoffs were everywhere. This is not just my opinion, but this comes from people i know now living in Ohio. If you want to check out Columbus and Cincinnati i know you will find many suburbs and diversity up here. Great schools and plenty to do.

so i live in just outside of chicago
I live just outside of chicago and are car gets busted into. I was walking from work and i was followed and i had to pull a small pocket knife out of my purse to keep the man away. There are gandbangers on my corner selling drugs and half the people that live around me do not speak english.
I live in one of the best areas as far as it goes for illinois and i am getting scared . I don't want my kids going to school with gangbangers. The house around me start at four hundred thousand and up, with both me and my husband we can not afford that.
I am looking for a quiet place to live. I have been called a hillbilly all my life because my family are from bluefield. I have never ridden in a rv and i don't smoke but the rent out there is real cheap and the crime is so low i was thinking it might be a place to live and raise my kids
I work in accounting and my husband works as a manager in a resturant i remeber wv as being real nice as a kid . I need to get out of this city . Where is a good place in wv to live.
P.s. i don't mind hillbilles and overweight people
