Default Moving to the Huntington or Charleston area.....

My family and I may be moving to the Huntington or Charleston area. I need some advise. I would really like to know a bit more about the area, some of the cities around there, both cities. I want to make sure that my wife, 2 small boys (and 1 on the way) are in a good area! I had heard that Barboursville is nice but what are some others? And please some areas/cities to avoid! I hadn't heard about any of the cities right over in Ohio eaither, like Ironton or South Point. Please help me!!!!!!!

First off, what kind of things are you looking for in a house/property and where will you be working? There are lots of different settings in the Huntington area that can accomodate many different tastes.

Default Hurricane / Teays Valley Is A good area.

Hi.
We live in Hurricane. Nice, quiet town. Little crime and about 25 minutes to either Charleston or Huntington. We go to church in Huntington and dont' mind the drive. I run my own business and also do work for a company in Milton.

Hurricane city water is high. We use rain barrels to water the plants and things. Anywhere in WV you have to pay personal property tax on your vehicles, so add that into your budget. We pay about $78 per vehicle per year.

The overall cost of living is lower than other states. I'm from Columbus, OH and when I went to Monster.com to do a comparison, it said that to be a millionaire in Columbus, I could live the same here on $300,000.

What kind of work do you do, like it was said, don't come here without a job, they are kinda scarce. Salaries are not near what they are in other areas, either.

I've passed through WV several times the last 4 months or so, staying in Charleston both times. Its a small sample size, but I didn't feel safe outside of my hotel, and I'm a big boy who can take care of myself. I've only stopped in Huntington for lunch but found it much to appear a much more family friendly area.

What hotel and area of town did you stay in Orangeish? If you don't feel safe in Charleston Dub-V then i don't know what to tell you. Charleston has a pretty low crime rate.

As far as a job, that's a non issue, my company may be moving me there, so the job is all set! I am looking for a place to live. I would like to live in a place close to huntington, but in a nice area. Not in a downtown setting.
