West Virginia here I come
I am moving to West Virginia from Pittsburgh (I'll miss you Pen's) and will be working in Fairmont. Can anyone tell me what would be a good area to live in. My children are out of school, so I'm not worried so much about the school system, but being from Pittsburgh, I would like to be close to activities and shopping and restaurants as much as I could.
I would prefer to live north of Fairmont or close to it. My family will still be in Pittsburgh and would like to be close as possible
Thanks
I'm looking forward to it. My husband never like City Living but I'll miss it, so this is going to be an adjustment for me.

Sorry I wanted to add something. A real important issue for me is Health Care. I would like to be close to a good hospital. Pittsburgh has great health care and that is my biggest concern.

Despite the fact that I was born in Fairmont General, the best health care in the North Central region is going to be in Morgantown. Living on the north side of Fairmont will put you half an hour or less away from there.
And I think you'll find that our Stillers and Pens are just as popular there as around Pittsburgh (but WVU fans are way more passionate than Pitt fans!). I think most of the cable systems carry Fox Sports Net - Pittsburgh, so you can just think of yourself as living in a far southern suburb of the 'Burgh.

Welcome, it may be an adjustment but you will be fine. Even though I wanted to move here I had a little bit of a hard time but than again I have never moved so far from family (it is only 1 1/2 hours) and not knowing anyone but I love the area.
Be prepared for a culture shock, by that I mean you will have to get used to people saying hi and very helpful. I can't tell you how much I enjoy shopping here (even at WalMart). I was used to people being rude and nasty.

If you can afford it, I'd say the Suncrest area of Morgantown would be good for you. It has very nice housing, is only a half hour's drive or so from Fairmont, and just over an hour to Pittsburgh, so if you feel you just have to hear some yinzers talk it isn't all that far. When they finish the Mon-Fayette Expressway (east of Morgantown) it will be even closer. And, you'll love Morgantown... good restaurants and cultural happenings plus it is way friendlier than the 'Burgh, and a whole lot safer.
