Default Huntington VA in $20M 'expansion mode'

Here's a good article about expanded facilities and services coming to the Huntington VA. This seems to be a good project that will benefit our soldiers with better services for many of the problems they face once they are home.

That's great news. The VA is making needed improvements all over the country. One small correction though... the VA has little to do with soldiers. It is an entirely different entity than the military and relates to veterans... former military personnel, not active duty soldiers. There are, however, some Guard and Reserve members who get treatment at VA facilities due to their veteran status, which is generally related to a certain amount of a specific type of military service.

As a Veteran, I often receive care at VA facilities and find them to be an outstanding resource. Like any large organization, it is not perfect. However, by and large it is a professionally run, highly competent organization.

I'm aware that they treat veterans who are no longer in active duty but I still like to refer to them as our soldiers because they are the soldiers who have helped to maintain the freedoms we currently have whether they are currently active or not. I have several family members who have served and frequently use the care provided by the VA. Too bad some in the current administration want to label those who fought for us as potential terrorist threats.

Not sure we should start a political discussion here, but most thinking people realize that the current Administration is largely composed of tax dodging reprobates whose last concern is the real welfare of the American people. That said, Napolitano is so far off base from reality that its best to discount most of what she says. You have millions of veterans, so I'm sure you could find a few kooks there, but the odds are just as good that the Secretary of Homeland Security is a potential threat as they are that an individual Veteran is one. She is a delusional nut case.

Oh give me a break! Im always amazed at how conservatives can take a simple phrase that any Democrat says and turn it into some elaborate tale. Janet Napolitano has only been in office for a few months so you guys have drawn some pretty quick conclusions as to her job capabilities. I gave the Bush administration at least a year or two before I came to the conclusion that they were all a bunch of incompetent morons.

Did you even read the entire article? It clearly states that a sizable amount of these upgrades to the Huntington VA have been made possible by an infusion of stimulus money. Sounds to me like you should be thanking the Obama administration for giving an economic jolt to your area.

My father has been going to the Huntington VA for years. He has been getting his cancer treatments at King's Daughters over in Ashland, and the Huntington VA is letting him stay there at the Hop-tel for free so he can reduce his commute times. Most of the time he stays at Ritter Park with my brother, but it's nice that he has that option.

I referenced one statement from one member of the current administration just referring to how off base it was to call our veterans potential terrorists and put them on a watchdog list. I mentioned nothing else about her job capabilities because, as you noted, she hasn't been in there long enough to draw any real conclusions. I also mentioned nothing else about the current administration or their policies. I do not agree with all of the things that they do but that could be said of just about any current administration. If one is able to think for themselves, they should never be in line with EVERYTHING that politicians do.

I also normally don't get involved in the political debates on here so please don't act like I do. Everyone has their opinion with regards to politics and they are entitled to it. It's amazing how many conclusions you drew from my one statement about veterans.

Who said you weren't entitled to your opinion? I just stated my disagreement with what you said. And how did I act like you always get involved in political debates on here? By replying to what you posted about members of the current administration treating our veterans as terrorist threats? It's a big statement for you to make and therefore worthy of a response from someone who disagrees. Add in the fact that a sizable portion of your VA expansion funding is coming from stimulus money it seems somewhat illogical to try and act like this administration somehow has it in for veterans. Oh well though..It was just my opinion and like you said everyone is entitled to one.

It isn't about Democrat or Republican. Hell, I'm a Democrat. It is about the inept people Barack has put on his staff... seemingly chosen to eliminate future political opposition more than for efficient and capable government. Napolitano is a total bozo. She was one as the Governor of Arizona and is even more out of her element now. She is an embarassment to any real Democrat.

Except for the general practicioners on staff, most VA specialists also have practices in public. You get the same quality there as you do any place else. It is a terrific benefit for veterans and provides first rate low cost treatment even for those who lack health insurance. I am fully insured (I don't even have to pay co-pays due to my multiple coverages) but I still get treatment in VA hospitals a lot of the time because I like the service I get there, and because I am among kindred spirits.
