Besides bars..........where in the heck do you really go and meet people these days. I am not a spring chicken by no means but I still have lots of life in me and want to start some social networking. Any suggestions. I go to the gym everyday but I am not really there to socialize. Thanks for anyones input.

If you have the time
1. I'd get involved in volunteering for a charity or whatever. Lots of time they just need people to help at an event, stuff envelopes, whatever. It takes a lot of man-power to put on a charity event and non-profits are always looking for volunteers to help set-up, man stations, etc.
Also, I bet the Clay Center could use volunteers.
2. Do you have a hobby? Get involved with a like minded group.
3. Concerned about what is going on in politics in the US? See about volunteering at a like-minded politician's office.
The list is almost endless, take a class, go to an evening auction, rock concerts, senior center, hobby groups exist in every venue: car clubs, walking groups, travel groups, motorcycle clubs, hiking groups, biking groups, card players, bingo players, pet shows....me, I work and it leads me into everything everybody else is in.
If you want to meet people, you have to go where the people are...
To add to VEC's and DK's lists:
It's fairs and festivals season, and will be for another 2-3 months. Get out on the weekends and see the Buckwheat Festival, the Forest Festival, etc.
Friday night high school football games are virtually town meetings. They'll start in about month or so.
Anything to do with schools. Volunteer as a chaperone, go to band concerts and art shows.
Shop locally. Yeah, there's better selection and maybe lower prices if you drive to the mall in the nearest "big city" and shop at the big box stores, but you'll see your neighbors at the local grocery, the Diary Queen, the little hardware store. And if someone strikes up a conversation, don't be in a hurry to check out and be on your way.
Thanks for your relpys. I have covered alot of those avenues but when you are single sometimes its hard getting out and getting back in the groove of meeting people and the what not but I am working on it. Thank you very much.
There is a meetup group for every interest imaginable.
