What are the clearest lakes in WV?
Hi everyone. Any input would be much appreciated.
I live in Philly right now and I'm looking for a spot to start visiting frequently in WV, with the intention of eventually buying a second home.
The most important thing to me is having a very clear lake that I can jump in with my dog. There's tons of lakes close to me in PA, but they're all muddy & I just don't like swimming in them.
Also important is outdoor activities. Hiking, kayaking, fishing... those are the big three.
And it would be nice if the area wasn't totally remote. I'd like it there were at least a few bars/restaurants close by.
I've actually never even been to WV... but for some reason, I just love the idea of going there to get away from the city.
Thanks!

http://pocahontas.org
Check this site out for Pocahontas County, WV. Check out the three rivers there and also Buffalo Lake and Shaver's Lake at Snowshoe, all have some of the clearest water you'll find you can see all the colors of the rocks on the bottom and I've even drank it! There is much to do in pocahontas county and surrounding areas such as Greenbrier Co. and Randolph Co. Activities such as whitewater rafting, caverns, snowshoe ski resort, cass scenic railroad, fishing, hunting, mountain biking, bungi jumping off new river gorge bridge (not in poc. co. but not far away).
You may also want to check out Stephens Lake and Bluestone Lake, although I do not know what the last 10 years may have done to the area. Anyone here have the lowdown on the current condition of these two lakes?
Anyway, I hope this helps!

Ah yes, been to Oregon! Breathtaking! I stayed in Bend for quite a while for work, nice microbreweries around there. Then I went up to Seattle for a while, a different world there! Fine restaurants and coffee houses! Loved it, didn't love the contant raining though....I like rain, but that's a little too much for me. I loved all the beautiful mountains in Oregon, drove along the Oregon Trail, awesome!
