WV Relocation/Charleston/Whitesville?
I am applying for a job that would be in one of two locations in WV, and was hoping some of the posters may know of the places I would be working at; I am a Residential Property Manager. Mind you...I am just applying, I may not even get the job, but feel I have a very good chance.
The first property would be in Whitesville, VW, called Mountain Terrace. The second property would be in Charleston, called Oakwood Terrace.
Does anyone know if these properties are nice, clean communities?
I realize they are for low income, so I'm not expecting the Taj Mahal, but would hope they at least fairly nice?
I am really looking forward to WV, and have a very high opinion of it. I feel Charleston would be very much like any other large city, with most anything available that one would need. However, I know nothing about Whitesville, or where it is even located in the state...I suppose I should look it up.
Finally, are winters harsh in WV...I'm coming from Milwaukee.
Thanks again for all your help, I've posted in WV before, you're all very kind and helpful!
I forgot...one more thing...I am a huge Mothman fan, and am looking forward to going to the Mothman Festival in Point Pleasant next fall...anyone ever go...your thoughts on it?

I'm not sure of the condition of the properties or the exact location, but Whitesville is a small community with great people. For the fast paced life, you would like Charleston. Triple the people and traffic and crimes. Good luck on the job! W.Va. is really a great state with many caring people!

I figure you were just making a quick comparison, but Charleston is much more than three times the population of Whitesville. It's almost exactly 100 times the population to be precise. 50k in Charleston proper, 550 in Whitesville.

"Finally, are winters harsh in WV...I'm coming from Milwaukee."
Different parts of WV get very different winters.
If you are moving from Milwaukee to Chas - think you will find the winters comparatively mild.
Don't know the topography of Milwaukee, but in WV we have nothing but hills and mountains. Someone from WI recently told me that was the big difference they found - driving on the hills in snowy weather.
Don't know if these are correct but read you get about 47.0 inches of snow per year. Chas gets about 32 inches.
Growing up in NE Ohio, I jokingly say living in Chas is like living in the tropics compared to where I grew up.
One time another poster razzed me about saying this - but guess I am not totally off base (this info is about Chas/Huntington, not necessarily other areas of WV) .....
Quote:
The area is considered a Humid Subtropical Climate, or Cfa on the Koeppen Climate Scale...
The area just misses qualifying for "D", or "Humid Continental" classification on the Koeppen Scale. To do this, the coldest month must have an average temperature of less than 32 degrees Fahrenheit. January and February come very close, with both months averaging a frigid 33.4 degrees.
Taking all this into consideration, the hybrid climate of the region means avoiding both the long and cold winters of the northeast, and the extended hot summers of the southeast. .....

Just FYI - as to the rest of the state:
Also
Quote:
In addition to persistent cloudy skies caused by the damming of moisture by the Alleghenies, West Virginia also experiences some of the most frequent precipitation in the nation, with Snowshoe averaging nearly 200 days a year with either rain or snow. Snow usually lasts only a few days in the lower sections but may persist for weeks in the higher mountain areas. .........
Average snowfall in the Allegheny Highlands can range up to 180 inches (460 cm) per year. Severe weather is somewhat less prevalent in West Virginia than in most other eastern states, and it ranks among the least tornado-prone states east of the Rockies.
