Comparing Canaan Valley and Davis
HI everyone,
As I know Canaan Valley is a resort area, are the condo there suppose to be pretty nice? I never been to there, and I don't know what to expect? Or how does the condo in Canaan Valley compare to houses in Davis area?
Which area is more remote and which one have more grocery store or essential shops equipped?
I will be staying in there for quite a while, your info will be very helpful before I made any decision.
Thanks\

I live in Canaan Valley. I do grocery shopping at the Shop N Save in Davis. Next to the grocery store is a Dollar General too. In Canaan they don't have a grocery store, but they have a country store (kinda like a WaWa or 7-eleven) and a deli in the store. Canaan is a resort area from what I've been told, but it is nice here. I'm renting a 2 bedroom condo for $550/month. It was cheaper than a 3 bedroom home in Davis for $850. There are a few nice condo's in Canaan. I know Talheim Village and Deerfield are nice.
I would say choose the place with better housing which is more affordable to you. If it's in Canaan then go for it -- the town of Davis is only a short drive away.

the thing is, where are you working to pay your rent? Are you one of the majority of the us who gets it from other sources?

I'm not sure exactly what "other sources" means, but my husband works in Elkins, so our income comes from his job.

I personal enjoy it out here in Canaan Valley. I drove from my condo in the heart of Canaan to the Shop N Save in Davis. It was 8 miles. I guess it all depends on where your working. But if I had to choose I would say Canaan. I love the view of the ski mountains from where I'm at.
Are you going to be working in Mt. Storm?

From what I've learned living here, people from Mt. Storm always come into Davis for short-term leases. Since you'll be working there, I would recommend staying in Davis. Rt 93 is just outside of Davis at the border, and living in Canaan would add about 8-10 miles onto your journey to the power plant.

No problem, I'm glad I could help! My husband and I decided in May of 2006 that WV is where we wanted to be, and in August we narrowed it down to the Davis area. There were a few people on this forum that helped me throughout the past 8 months of planning my relocation, everyone was so helpful. It's real hard deciding on a place to stay when you've never seen the place.
You'll find Davis to be a nice mountain town. The November issue of Men's Journal declares Davis is one of the "10 Coolest Mountain Towns" in North America. That's quite a compliment!
I will PM you my email address. If you have any more questions or need help while you are in Davis, please email me and let me know.
Here is a great article from USA today that'll tell you a little bit more about the area USA Today
