Hi,
I am hoping someone will be familiar with the Mounts cemetery
located either very close to or in Gilbert, West Virginia, in the county
of Mingo.
My family believes that my Grandfather is buried in this cemetery.
If anyone is familiar with it, can you tell me if this cemetery is still
being used today, or whether it is a small, very old cemetery that
is not frequented much by visitors? Also, I would like to know if
once in the cemetery, there is a hilll that you climb to get to more
of the graves.
ANY information anyone can provide about the cemetery will be
very much appreciated. My Grandfather's death certificate did
not list the place of burial. Williamson newspaper archives from
the year that he was killed in a mine cave, 1925, were destroyed
in a fire. We are just working through family members long time
ago memories to find my Grandfather.
Thanks so much!
Deb

I think this is the cemetery my grandfather is buried in and you have to climb a steep hill. I think it is on horsepen mountain right before you get into gilbert. My relatives live on gilbert creek.

Isaban is pretty isolated. Probably the easiest way to get there is taking County Route 1 over "Johnny Cake Mountain" -- this is just off U.S. 52 near Iaegar. You can also access Isaban by going all the way up Gilbert Creek and crossing that mountain, Isaban Mountain.

I don't know if this is helpful, but I am attaching a list of my ancestors buried in this Mounts Cemetery.
