Compared to what? Not to anything else in that area...

My wife and I have a 2 year old son.
Thank you in advance.

Have lived in Yorktown for 30 years ... Commuted to lower Manhattan for several years ... Most take Metro North from Croton or the new station at Cortlandt ... I found that the quickest way was to drive down (Taconic) to the North White Plains station and take Metro North from there. North White has more trains running ... It is last stop for express to 42nd st for trains coming from Brewster and also Starting station for express runs that pick up from 4 or 5 stations in lower Westchester. I had to take subway from 42nd St down to Fulton ... It took door to door about 1 hour 45. Glad I'm retired now. Parking is another issue ... I always left early and had no problem. I'm sure you'll be happy in Yorktown, if you can afford the taxes. Good luck

It depends on where you live in Yorktown. I have a 10 minute drive to the Croton station. My door-to-Grand Central time is 60 minues to 65 depending on the train. Then I have a 15 minute subway ride to Penn station, where the office is.

Both Yorktown and Somers (north of Yorktown Heights) offer school buses.

I grew up in Yorktown Heights, my father and sisters are still there. My nephew is graduating from my High School which is Lakeland. For those of you moving there first you need to know there are TWO school districts that cover Yorktown Heights. 1. is the Yorktown School District 2. Is the Lakeland School district. Both are excellent school districts. However, Lakeland comes at a bit higher price tax wise then Yorktown. On my childhood home we have no mortgage so we put about 1200 a month away for our taxes per month. That is school and town tax. You also have to remember you can get nice smaller older homes for a reasonable price around $450K -$500K. When you get higher you are getting into the big new developments that have gone in over the last 10 years or so. Growing up in Yorktown was amazing. I recommend anyone buy a house here. They have everything you need for a family there. Large backyards for baseball, and BBQ's neighbors are friendly, yet you have space to breath. Town pool, Sparkle Lake. I can tell you that if you live in the Lakeland District Shrub Oak pool is where you would go, they have a hockey rink there. We always had a pool but when we did go it was great. They have the Fireman's Carnival (which this year was a blowout! Then there is the Grange Fair with old fashioned pie baking contests, needlepoint 4H everything for a old fashioned time! I go back to the house a few times a month to see my father and sisters etc. My kids never want to leave. If my husband job was not in Eastern Long Island I would be back there in a hot second. I can not stand Long Island after living in such a beautiful, sleepy community. Good Luck you will LOVE LOVE LOVE it!!!!!You can go on the town website and there will be links. You have Yorktown Athletic association or the Shrub Oak Athletic association. The 2 churches are St Patricks in Yorktown and St Elizabeth Ann Seton in Shrub Oak. Depending on which side you are on will help with that. There are also many Temples and other Christian Churches. For The school districts you could be in Yorktown or Lakeland so google both. Lakeland is the Jefferson Valley side and Yorktown SD is more toward the town itself. You can google any of what I gave you for information.

Oh the Indian Point issue. I grew up with all that stuff the siren testing etc. Never bothered us. Never even thought about it still don't think about it. In fact my sisters gym school was in Buchanan about 1 mile from the plant.

I just ran into this thread from mostly 2007 comments. I'm interested to know how the home prices are holding up. Is $600k+ and 12$k taxes the norm?
