yes very true... New fairfield is also another great area to get into if you are thinking CT... taxes are friendly and schools are way btter than YH IMHO. I just saw a listing tonight for a home in YH at $399K and taxes are $9500 OUCH!... for what I tell you, for what?

I would also say keep in mind when looking at listings that I am hearing that realtors now have to list the taxes on the home without what the star reduction would be. Since everyone is eligible for Basic star in NY, if a house is listed with $9500 in taxes that may or may not be after the star reduction. We also received rebates for the past couple of years. This year it was about an avg of $1K we got back in Yorktown, depending upon your income and school district and last year I remeber it was something like $400 to $500 we got back.

That is after star... even with star and rebates the taxes are out of hand. cause you can always get these in other places too. So in this way YH is way overvalued IMHO.

Yorktown Hts, great place to live, period. I owned a house for 8 years in town, and sold it and staying in the area. This town has a lot to offer, not just for kids, but for adults. I also looked other places, came back to YH, and I work in New Paltz, so my choices are endless in moving north. So people that are saying its overrated are those that cant find a house they can afford. Taxes are high, but thats the price to pay to live here. If youcan afford buy a house here, you wont regret it.

The point wasnt missed, just taken in a different light. I choose to live here because I like it here. I pay the taxes cause I can afford it. Sounds like you and houseshopping have the same perception, I wonder why.

So the same house costs less in Danbury than Mahopac, with taxes 60% lower. So the obvious question arises. What's wrong with Danbury?

It's just a little bit of a further drive to the city and White Plains,
