My husband and I are considering a movie from the city, mainly because of schools. We can't swing private school tuition on NYC, and both of our children would be the very youngest in their grades in public school (Dec. and Nov. birthdays). I get the sense that, should it be necessary, it's easier to redshirt kids in the suburbs? Especially concerned about my son being a boy and among the youngest kids. I know this is controversial, but I just want to have the option of holding him back, whether or not I exercise it. Can anyone comment on how easy it is to redshirt, should we feel it's necessary? I know there's a screening process to determine readiness, but how much in suburbs is determined by parents?

Also we'd really love to find a fun, social place to live. I picture having lots of dinner parties and time barbequing in the backyard. Among Pelham, Larchmont and Rye, can anyone comment about the social life? I'd really appreciate your input.

I lived in Rye 15 years and I pushed my 4 year old daughter forward and held my son back and no one seemed to have an issue with me enrolling my son in a second 4 year old class in nursery school as I decided he was not ready.

I just returned to Rye after a 4 year absence and we have been having a wonderful time socializing with old friends. Rye also has an active newcomers club that makes it easy to get involved in the community. Good luck!
