hello everyone... was wondering if any of you might have suggestions for me... looking to move out of the city, work long hours, have 2 dogs... so looking for:

home in lower westchester,
500-620k
less than 40-45 minutes on metro north to grand central
hoping for .20 acre or more (for the dogs)
1500+ sq ft
** good schools (for maintaining home value and for future kids)
taxes that are not sky high
very safe
nice quaint neighborhoods

friends have suggested larchmont, rye, bronxville... but have not found too much in this lower price range... (scarsdale i gather is way too expensive for us...) is it entirely impossible?

thanks so much for your help and suggestions!

I used to live in White Plains (I'm down south now) and it was a nice place to live and was more affordable than the towns you listed. I still have friends and relatives there and we have all relied on agents form the Century 21 office on Mamaroneck ave in WP. they took good care of me and all of my extended family that have since moved.

You will not find anything in rye, bronxville or larchmont in your price range- average price homes there are well over a million. You may find a fixer upper in lower Westchester, but you are going to have to be pretty lucky. Try upper Westchester- maybe Yorktown- I think train from Croton is like 45-50 minutes.

You may find homes in that price range in Greenburgh if you are willing to compromise on upgrades.

Little cape cod houses in most of the towns in Westchester with good public schools start at 700-800k.
