...such as Bronxville or Pelham after renting an apartment in central Riverdale for the past 2 decades

although my area in Riverdale is certainly a fine one, i find there's no comparison to Pelham or Bronxville

I don't care for Eastchester as it's too generic in appearance and Bronx River Rd is too cluttered with apartments and traffic

I would be looking for a modest one bedroom apartment, co-op most likely as i now have the means to do it

I have always been attracted to villagey type areas like the main street in Pelham (is it 5th Avenue or Wolf's lane I forgot) or Bronxville

what concerns me most tho is that socially i am kind of an enigma--I am a single Jewish male who is in my late 40's(and I am not gay either) and i know that these areas typically don't have a lot of Jews, and these areas can be clannish in that word can spread about someone if they don't fit into any particular social mold. this can even occur at the level of dealing with a co-op board. Or so I fear, at least,,,c orrect me if I'm wrong

any ideas?

What exactly is attracting you to a villagey town? You want to be able to buy an apple at the local corner deli? Is that really worth moving for?

Have you ever visited Larchmont? Not to plug my own town, but we certainly have more single Jewish males than Bronxville! And the village itself is far better than Pelham's, IMO.

I've never owned in Manhattan, but buying into co-ops isn't nearly as much of an issue here than in the city. If you can afford it and aren't an ax-murderer, most boards will let you in here I would guess based on people that I know that own co-ops.

The co op boards are fine in Pelham. It's a small town. There are plenty of Jews, too. I don't see why anyone would have a problem with single guys. In fact, it might be a plus, socially.

thanks for the responses! no I'm not an axe murderer tho i have come close with working with a few (I'm a psychiatric social worker)!!

I've been to Mamaroneck more than Larchmont tho i have gone thru Larchmont a few times but more on the outskirts

i would like to stay as close to The Bronx/city as much as possible which is why i chose Pelham/Bxvil

Why don't you just stay in the city? I don't get it.,

As a fellow (though not single) Jewish male just a few years younger than you I'll tell you to avoid Bronxville, one of the last bastions of bigotry in Westchester (used to be true of Pelham as well but no more; not only semi-significant Jewish population but small and growing affluent African-American population there too so people are pretty tolerant there).

Good luck! I'm going to PM you with some more info. By the way (different thread), go check out the view at Greenwich Point Park already........
