Question Good special ed elementary in Putnam/Dutchess???

Hello: We are thinking of relocating from NJ to Westchester-back home to where I grew up. I think after only one visit to real estate that we have eliminated westchester based on taxes and prices. My husband has to commute to NYC and we also have a border line special needs child, he has ADHD and needs just more than he gets here in NJ which consists of several time outs a day and some dirty teacher looks. Our school recently declassified him and well, it is a very long story. my question? ANYONE out there know of GOOD solid school districts in Putnam/Dutchess County??? Schools that have a good S.E.P.T.A (special ed PTA)!

I know from where I grew up that of course, Scarsdale (Edgemont district) in Westchester has the best rated high school. And that Pelham also has strong special education--but who the heck can afford a one family for $700,000 add on additional 12 grand in tax!!! So, that brings us to Putnam or Dutchess.
ANY ADVICE???? the websites I visit don't get into the "nitty gritty" of what I am looking for. THANK YOU!!! carloandlisa@juno.com

Amenia has alot of private schools that are special ed....its more rural..but from what I hear Beautiful.

Just to warn you..dutchess is not cheap either....550k plus 12k in taxes is the bare min for a decent home in a decent area...600k is more realistic.

Just saw an advertisment for Amenia (40 minutes I think north of brewster)...and it was "Lowered for a quick sale"--and the home was 479k. So just be prepared to still dig deep and have to go above the 1/2 mill mark.

Why would you move from a great spec ed school program in Syosset to Dutchess Co?
I'm asking because I want to move to NY because I heard the services in all of NY state are good. I live in IL and have a 22 yr old daughter with special needs, 48 IQ, autism spectrum, ADHD and she's not getting adult day services and will only get residential when we die, and there's no respite. There is good but very expensive special recreation programs, ex. $40-$50 to go to a Fri nt movie. Hope you will enlighten me about NY State. Thanks, Greenerpastures
