If you work in NYC, you can date in NYC.
So, you won't be doing much of anything requiring driving 5 of 7 days.

You can either stay in the city on weekends
or use a Zipcar for occasional weekend errands.

You might be able to get away with no car for some time.

Thanks for this information. The Zipcar option is fabulous!

What is the area around WP metro north station like? (Houses within walking distance). Looking to buy a house there. Are the taxes high due to proximity to town? Are there low income apartment rentals nearby? How is diversity in WP? Schools?

There are a lot of great new buildings in White Plains. Most of the newest constructed residential buildings tend to be luxury rental building with full amenities (pool, spa, clubhouse) a lot of common space. There are also a lot of traditional condos for sale in mid-high rise buildings. Are you looking to buy or rent?

Looking to buy a house within walking distance to train. Took a train out there a few days ago to scope it out. Was, eh, not impressed with my would-be neighbors... Will keep looking for other towns.

Currently, WP is not a great town if you want to live walking distance to the train. There are some options, but that neighborhood isn't really ideal for it. There are supposedly plans to redevelop the entire train station area, with retail, residential, a new station, street layout, etc...but nobody really knows when that will actually happen.

Are you looking to date your neighbors?
What are you looking for, and why are you leaving the city?
