We are moving to Larchmont this summer and are trying to plan what to do for a pool. I hear the Hommocks pool is supposed to be nice, but only the kiddie pool is outside and the adults pool is indoors (seems silly to swim in an indoor pool in the summer)

i know that lots of people join expensive country clubs or pool clubs, but that just isn't in the budget for us this year - or any year that is coming soon. can someone please tell me what most people (without money to burn) do?

Live in New Rochelle.

Sorry, had to do it. Seriously, though, you can do Harbor Island or Manor Beach (only if you are in Larchmont for that one) for a beach experience. Other than that, you can pay for a Westchester parks pass and go to the county pools. Some like Saxon Woods seem decent enough, others are in not great towns, and either way, you have to stake out a spot by 8am on a weekend.

What jjinla said re. the parks pass. I hear the Saxon Woods pool going towards Scarsdale is decent. Thats not far from Parchment.

You can't go to Lake Isle if you don't live in Eastchester.

There is also Playland pool, though (shuddering as I say that, so take it as a warning).

do you have room in your your for our own pool? Maybe consider installing one.
Do a lot of people have pools in their yards in lower Westchester??? During my house searching, I don't see many that do. Why is that?

Well, I am fairly certain that you don't see above ground pools because it's seen as a low-class thing.

As for inground...the expense, liability, lack of space, etc. just don't make it an attractive thing except in the larger estates (i.e. $2M+). Plus, pools are more of a social thing than a fitness thing. Trying to find something to keep kids busy for 2+ months over the summer is a bit challenging, even with camps and all.

You can join Lake Isle as a nonresident member. It's more than if you live there, but a small fraction of country club membership elsewhere.

I have never heard the low-class opinion about above ground pools. LOL....we currently have an above ground pool with a deck built around it; and no, we are not low class by any means
It is really very nice and and keeps us all happy and cool in the hot summer months.
Guess we are a little more down to earth than to have judgemental opinions about a pool. Seems silly to me. Interesting answer about it...never would have thought that woudl be a reason as to why many homes do not have them. Pretty sad.
