Lovemyfam5 - I think you can find a lot of areas that are pretty open to same sex couples. I think the bigger issue in your search is going to be finding a good school district with more then a handful of black kids. I presume this is what you're talking about when you mention diversity. I might be mistaken, but I think all of the towns that you mentioned are very white...as is a lot of Westchester. It's the type of thing where there might be 2 or 3 black kids in a grade. If you favor small school districts, I recommend Valhalla...the district is still predominantly white but includes the Parkway Homes neighborhood which is almost exclusively black families. If a large school district doesn't scare you off, White Plains is your best bet. Both meet your commuting and price range requirements. If interested in White Plains, I strongly recommend the Highlands neighborhood (described in other posts). Good luck!

I'd love to see more families like yours in Chappaqua, where our family lives. Like jjinla, we are also from SoCal and miss the diversity and open-mindedness we were surrounded by there.

1. Good school system
2. Community/Progressive town with open-minded and educated people
3. Metro-North access (we work in NYC and CT)
4. Affordability (Home price within $450,000-$560,000)
We would love your honest input. Will any of the Westchester county towns or villages be receptive to diversity?
Thank you in advance

Out of these 4, Tuckahoe is the most diverse racially. Tuckahoe High School - Public School
Search for Public Schools - School Detail for Tuckahoe Middle School
Search for Public Schools - School Detail for William E Cottle School
As for Westchester County school districts, it can vary in terms of racial/ethnic diversity. I'm surprised that the Cali transplants weren't suggested Ossining, Elmsford, White Plains, New Rochelle, Pelham, Valhalla and perhaps a few others if diversity were important. Quality of schools may vary, but you can find schools with a good amount of diversity in Westchester County.
Again, my personal favorite in the Westchester/Rockland area in that regard is the Nyack area in terms of a high volume of diversity and a high level of school performance. You would have to either cross the Tappan Zee or take NJ Transit, but it may work. Very diverse area, but in a smaller package. West Nyack is in the Clarkstown SD while he rest of the Nyacks are in the Nyack Union Free SD.

Come to Ossining!
We bought our first home here from a same sex, inter-racial couple and they told us they always felt very welcome here. I'm also part of an inter-racial couple (I'm white, he's Latino), so that's where the convo started. In fact, the mayor is gay and just married his long-time partner.
My oldest child was in the pre-K through the public schools last year (starts KG in a few weeks!) and we are not short on diversity! We have pretty much every group represented. Our superintendent often calls us a 'mini UN".
Also, you can definitely get a nice house in your price range.

Hey Lovemyfam5:
I am also going to throw in a vote for Ossining. We moved here so our kids could grow up in a racially diverse town with great schools and an easy commute to NYC. (However, CT could be a challenge from here.)
This is a sweet little town and you can get a hell of a house for the price range you are looking in. You also get great big yards. The Chilmark area is gorgeous and affordable. We don't live there, but we go to the park/playground because it's nice, and whenever we go....there are kids and parents of all different ethnographies.
We have really fallen in love with the town.
