Hi all, we are looking to move to Westchester from Manhattan. We've visited Scarsdale and Edgemont and loved it. We don't mind the home prices but we want to stay below $30K in taxes which rules these towns out for us. Close commute to the city and great public schools are a must. Although we haven't visited Ardsley yet, we hear the schools are great, but we heard Ardsley is a bit "run down"? Not sure what that means or how true it is. Anyone live in Ardsley and either love it or hate it? Appreciate any honest feedback on the town. Does Ardsley have a downtown and any public amenities? What we loved about Scarsdale was all the public amenities the village seemed to provide - i.e., public pool, sports and recreation.
Or are there any other towns in Westchester you would recommend? Thanks in advance!

Ardsley actually has high taxes, but home prices are somewhat more reasonable in comparison to Scarsdale/Edgemont. Schools are top notch. I'm not sure why anyone would refer to it as "run down", it's an older town like most of Westchester, but the neighborhoods are pretty and well maintained. People who live there generally love it. The downtown is not very quaint, but from a practical standpoint you can find what you are looking for. There are plenty of restaurants, grocery stores, delis, a Starbucks, a hardware store, laundry mats, hair salons, etc. Neither Ardsley nor Edgemont have their own train station, but people use either the Hartsdale station or Scarsdale station, both are within a ten minute drive. As far as other amenities, there are nice parks, dedicated little league fields, House of Sports, Life, library and community center. A new sports center is being planned as well. The Greenburgh pool is not available to Ardsley residents (despite the fact that it's located in Ardsley) so many people use the Ardsley Tennis Club or other paid pools. The best thing would be to visit and get a feel for the town, see the residential areas, visit the schools, etc. to get a feel for it.

Everyone says this, but the Hudson line schedule shows a stop for "Ardsley-on-Hudson". What's the story?

edit: nevermind. From wikipedia:
A common misconception is that the station serves the similarly named village of Ardsley, New York. The village of Ardsley is located about 2.5 miles east, on the discontinued Putnam Division line, which ceased passenger service in 1958.

Can residents of Ardsley park at the other train stations along the Hudson line?
