My husband works at Montefiore in the Bronx and we are considering moving to Chappaqua...how long of a commute would it be? Would he commute by car or is there a train that would get him there more efficiently? We would like to keep his commute under 30 minutes each way. Thanks!

Monte to Chappaqua by car is something like 20-25 miles on the Saw Mill River Pkwy to the Mosholu.

Thanks! Does traffic move quickly? Or is it jammed at rush hour? I suppose that is the question I should have asked

A friend does Ossining to Montefiore via Taconic, which should be about the same (give or take distance of your home to the parkway). 30 minutes will put you in the neighborhood, but the city traffic is more unpredictable. Can be negligible some days and 20 minutes to go a few blocks on others. I don't think you could be reliably under 30, but you could hit that mark on good days.

I don't know specifics of the train commute, but parts of Monte should be walkable to the Harlem line. I doubt it will be 30 minutes door to door.

Oh, and keep in mind there will be occasional days where the parkways flood or there's a bad accident and all bets are off then. Otherwise, Taconic/Sprain are wonderfully free-flowing (I've done car commute in the past as well).

+1

The Sawmill is HORRIBLE when it rains alot! I take the Sawmill everyday. Also, like someone else mentioned, when there's a bad accident, you might as well make yourself comfortable. You'll be sitting there for a long time.

There's traffic during rush hour, but it does move quickly. The very few lights on the Sawmill around the Yonkers area tend to get a little congested during rush hour, but like I said...it does move quickly.

I would probably take the Tocanic to Sprain. If you're feeling brave take the sawmill, but definitely stay away from it when it rains.

There a lots of doctors at Montefiore who live in Chappaqua. When the weather is bad you can take 120 to i-684 (Armonk or Airport exit) and its smooth sailing from there down the Hutch.
