We have friends that send their kids to City schools from the RiverTowns. However you have very prestigious private schools here in Westchester like the Masters in Dobbs Ferry & Hackley in Tarrytown. Both towns are on the Hudson, train ride into city is under 40 minutes. Irvington is in between both Dobbs & Tarrytown - These RiverTowns have beautiful Million Dollar homes with land & views. Why don't you take a look at what is offered here & then you would have the option of a short commute to the city or if that does not work out - wonderful public & private schools.
If I can be of any help, please contact me @ audrey.moore@randrealty.com
Good luck with you decision, Audrey

Good points Audrey. Rye Country Day School is also in Westchester, I don't know how good it is but their curriculum which they have on their website looks good. Perhaps others who know more about it can chime in. A ride into the city from Rye if that doesn't work out won't be too bad either under 40 minutes too I think.

Default Live in Northern Mount Vernon/ One block from Bronxville

We live one block outside of Bronxville (three children and myself and my husband), and send our children to Horace Mann. The houses are outstanding - 4,5,and 6 bedroom mansions for a fraction of the price of Bronxville because we don't use the public schools. Half-acre yards with jungle gyms and privacy. We love it. The family next door sends their children to Riverdale Country School. A very nice community. 10 minutes to Riverdale and 20-25 minutes to the city.

It's been a while and I wonder what the result was for the original poster!? We are in Pound Ridge a bucolic town in the Bedford Central School District, an hour by car/train to Manhattan. The schools are great even though our daughter managed to go to Kent School (prep/boarding) in CT for High School. Some of her friends got into the colleges before she did so who knows. We are selling our home as they have all gone on the college etc. no longer need the space---we back up to the Ward Pound Ridge Reservation! Wonderful Place to have your children grow up!! Email me if interested--annmarieinthewoods@hotmail.com
