I am with the Afya Foundation and am writing in hopes of collecting no longer needed medical supplies from individuals in the community in order to donate them to aid people around the world. By means of introduction, Afya is a facility located in Yonkers with the mission of recovering and delivering critically needed surplus medical supplies, hospital equipment, and humanitarian provisions to Africa, the Caribbean, and other developing countries. Afya has accomplished a great deal and has helped many people worldwide. Please visit our website to gain an understanding of the breadth of our accomplishments.

Gloria’s Gathering is a program that Afya began to specifically address the needs of seniors worldwide. After a surgery, illness or death, individuals are often left with unneeded medical supplies and equipment. Disposing of these items can be difficult or painful. Through Gloria’s Gathering, however, they can be used again, bringing comfort and saving lives in countries where there is a desperate lack of such items. By donating no longer needed supplies to help others, the memory of a loved one can be meaningfully honored. Afya accepts supplies and equipment including gauze, bandages, adult diapers or chux, IV supplies, walking aids (walkers, canes), new or gently used single bed linens, and wheelchairs.

We are also in need of volunteers that can help us in our Yonkers warehouse. For retired individuals, this can provide an opportunity to engage in altruistic and meaningful activities that can enhance their quality of life. We are also making efforts to help veterans by providing volunteer opportunities in which vocational training can take place.

Please check out our website listed below and feel free to contact me with any questions or suggestions.

Kind regards,
Ariel Lewis, Occupational Therapy Intern, Afya Foundation
