here's a question then, I agree with all of you, you can't go by ratings alone, you have to go to the school, speak to parents ect....but what if the school doesn't give tours? (I have heard some public schools in Westchester don't) or say your moving from far away and can't spend a lot of time in that particular town...does anyone have any other resources for digging into a school?? Other than school digger, great schools.org ect. Is there a site that maybe rates the extra-curricular programs or clubs? Or possibly a site that rates a school on parent and student experience?? just curious

Another development is the aging of the population such that too many seniors no longer want to pay for school programs.
This was the theme of school closing drama - older residents primarily concerned about their taxes (although I'm not sure that taxes will be lower now....) clashing with parents of school aged kids. I have wondered whether moving kindergarten to full day would actually draw more young families to the district who would otherwise have been turned off by having to patch together half day childcare for an additional year, or who just want full day K for their kids for other reasons. Or whether the school population will continue to decline, as predicted.

FWIW, my neighboring district experienced a similar drop in enrollment and closed one school in 2010. It's the same thing that happened to the district aprox 15 years ago, when they closed the same school for a few years until rising enrollment made them reopen it. School populations rise and fall, and this year's school population was higher than the last few and they needed to add some classes.

Does anyone have an opinion about Katonah Elementary school vs. Increase Miller? My family is looking to buy a house in Katonah and I wanted to know if anyone had any positive or negative experiences with these elementary schools. thank you!
