I am looking house in edgemont/scarsdale area, if the target house uses oil heating, I wanted to know if it is possible to convert to gas. How can I find the information on whether there is nearby gasline available? thanks,

Call Con Edison ( Consolidated Edison). They can tell you for sure. I've included a link & if you look down the page I opened the section for you on how to ask them.

Please be aware that not only do you have to hook up to natural gas, you also need a natural gas furnace.
You do not need to buy natural gas from Con Edison, although you can. However, Con Edison owns the distribution lines so they also charge if you decided to use another provider.

However, first things first. Find out if there is gas in the street.

In all likelihood, a house in Scarsdale or Edgemont has a gas line on the street. There are still lots of oil holdouts, from a time when oil was cheaper than gas.

And if you can't get an answer from Con Ed, you may be able to see gas meters on the front of nearby houses.
