Hello All,

My wife and I are looking for a house and we think we might have found one in Brewster, NY just above the Westchester boarder. We live in North Yonkers right now. I work in Westchester currently. In the event that down the road I end up switching jobs and end up in around Mid-Town NYC. How long is the actual commute from Brewster (Southeast) to Grand Central? I looked up the Metro-North train scheduled and got the times off there, but was curious on what the actual time is. I just wanted to hear from people that do the commute everyday to NYC from Brewster.

Is it rough? Do you hate life\commute?

Any input will be great.

Wouldnt the Metronorth website be pretty accurate? I suppose it depends how long it takes you to get to the station?

Not anymore :/ Because of the accidents last year, and the safety review, all of the trains have slowed down, but the schedules haven't been updated to indicate the longer running time.

For example, my usual commute (GCT to Pelham) currently says 27-30 minutes on the website, which was how long the commute used to take (I'd leave on the 7:05 and be in GCT by 7:35). However, in the past couple of months, my trip has been anywhere from 10 to 15 minutes longer.

Basically, I'd add 10-15 minutes to the website's estimate, and you'll probably be in the ballpark.

Between 78-90 minutes, with the lesser time being the express trains. I do it every day. Overall I find the trains to be very reliable, and they run frequently during rush hour. Plenty of parking at the station as well, and I got a pass after waiting about 6 months. Now I park much closer to the train which is great. The key is catching the express trains with less than 5 stops.

Keep in mind that your total door to door time will likely be much longer, depending on the time to drive to the station, park the car, walk to the platform, and that's just to get into Grand Central. I take the train daily from White Plains and the trip is usually delayed by 10 minutes more often than not. It also takes me a half hour to get to the Upper East Side once I'm in the city, so the ~80 or so minute trip from Brewster could be much longer in total. Many people do it and have for years, but I'd anticipate about 3.5 - 4 hours a day traveling round trip.
