The Mount Vernon Public Library is seeking $4.35 million in new taxpayer funding. This would create a separate new tax on our property tax bills. The library has previously been funded by the city. The shift will not reduce our city taxes, which have increased over 20% in the past three years. The library has not released a budget or detailed how they will spend the money. The vote is scheduled for May 6 at the library.
There is a library board of trustees meeting this Wednesday, April 16 at 6:30pm, open to the public.
