my partner and I (2 men, middle aged) are ready to leave the city. we love the landscape up in bedford-armonk for biking, hiking. we live a pretty quiet life (both professionals, both christian) with our pets, might have children later but happy to stay uncles forever. i am looking to see what people think the level of social acceptance would be for a gay couple in bedford-bedford village-armonk area. thanks

Not sure about Bedford or Armonk, but have you also considered Ossining? Has access to all of that, plus the water. The village mayor is openly gay and wed his partner here two years ago. A lot of progressive folks here, and plenty of houses of worship.

Fellow gay man here and I've found pretty much all of Westchester to be accepting. I have a good friend in Armonk and I spend a bit of time up there. It's a great place if it's the pace of life you're looking for. It's much quieter than the city and quieter than southern Westchester. You can usually find more land than you would in southern Westchester, which seems perfect for you two given your interests. If you ever do have kids, you'll be in one of the best school districts as well. You can find pretty much anything you need locally as well (restaurants, grocery stores, farmers' markets, shopping, etc.)

Our neighbors of some 15 years are a gay couple (women). We get on great and they've never had any problems. I'm in Pound Ridge, but just minutes from Bedford Village.

Have you thought about Putnam County? It's cheaper and the nature up there is more natural and varied in my opinion.

Pound Ridge might be a nice option. More privacy and less gossip than Armonk - I can't speak to Bedford Village but outside of the village it is similar to Pound Ridge as they blend into one another.

I'll chime in with my usual recommendation for Katonah, technically a hamlet of Bedford. The village is adorable, charming, and from there it quickly spreads out into beautiful countryside, trails, reservoirs, parks. It has the all-important train station for easy access to the city, if that is important to you. Some of the other towns mentioned here do not. Good luck!

However, you should remember that the Katonah zip code includes an area far larger than the hamlet you described.
