Yorktown has good schools, but doesnt compare to Rye or Pleasantville, or Chappaqua

I lived in Rye Brook and now live in Pound Ridge. Rye Brook has an excellent high school with the majority of the graduating class going on to upper tier colleges. If you really want great schools - the consistently high rated high schools are in Edgemont (part of Scarsdale), Chappaqua, Rye, Bronxville, Rye Brook, Katonah is up there, Bedford is pretty good (and I haven't heard much about Pelham). There are a lot of good school districts really. This website gives some insight:

Default need advice on preschools in desirable westchester towns-making a move very soon and need direction

we are relocating from seattle soon-i grew up in new york but have been out west for a long time. looking to live in a walkable community near the water and with access to trains into nyc (larchmont, mamaroneck-any others recommended?)

i am having another baby very soon and i have a very outgoing 3 yo. boy.
i found that the preschool environment is very driven and competitive out here in seattle (one school had 500 apps for 30 spots) and so i am nervous about what awaits us in ny. i'm in a bind b/c i am too pregant to get out there and look and september looms...

does anyone have any suggestions for how to find a preschool which focuses on emotional and social life with some structure but not competitive at the cost of wonderment and imagination? i want a school that helps give him the fundamentals-to be a good member of a group-a sense of himself in the world-not just rote or darwin's surival of the fittest (often done with boys) or behave by fear of consequence-all of which do happen in some schools. b/c we are making this move so quickly, i find that i am really concerned with finding a good environment-grounded & stable (i know i sound so west coast-but i mean it)

any good pre-K programs in desirable towns that you know of-i am not attached to any specific philosophy-i like montessori when it isn't too rigid-i think waldorf is a little too out there for us...

we are talking about relocating this fall-any chance i'll find a spot?-any tips on what schools operate by word of mouth-good but not listed. i am stressing about doing right by my oldest in the face of so many changes...any ideas are welcome.

Byram Hills School District and the town of Armonk should be considered. Without a doubt it is one of the nicest towns in Westchester and/or Connecticut. You can't beat the schools, town services, people and the way of life. It's a great place to bring up kids.
