We're a family looking to move to the burbs from the city, and had almost decided that Pelham Manor or Pelham Heights was the right place for us. On previous visits, we have noticed that there are quite a lot of airplanes flying by, but when we were out there today (on a late Sunday afternoon), the noise from all the planes struck us as overwhelming. Part of the reason to move out of the city is to escape the constant traffic noise, so this really got us worried. Please help us out - is the noise from airplanes worse than usual on Sundays? Are there places in Pelham where it is more or less noticeable? What about other towns in Westchester (Larchmont, Rye for example), is the noise less there?
Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Flight patterns change with wind patterns, and, yes, certain approaches to LGA go right over that section of the sound. There will be noise sometimes. Consider moving a little further inland.

Several LaGuardia flight paths come right down Long Island Sound. It hasn't changed since the 60's when I lived in Larchmont..
