Relocation Advice
Basically, we're planning on relocating to either NY or LA. We've lived in both, but NY is closer to family. We CANNOT wait to get out of Miami. We have a newborn and I'm looking to join a medical practice in the city or westchester. We are looking for an area that has stuff to do (yoga, shopping, whole foods, etc.. for the wife) and good schools. From what I've been reading here Ardsley, Dobbs Ferry, Scarsdale, Larchmont and Bronxville seem like good matches. Please let me know what you think. We've also considered moving to the city.
By the way, I think there's only one Whole Foods in Westchester at the moment and that one's being built in Yonkers. What are the better markets in Westchester?

If you are thinking about Scarsdale and Bronxville - than look at Briarcliff Manor, Chappaqua too - both equally nice and a bit up the line but still within 45 minutes from NYC. There are plenty of towns throughout though that are very nice.
Here is a helpful link for you to check out the different towns

Do you know where in Yonkers they are opening the Whole Foods, cause White Plains is sometimes a pain with all the traffic!
Thanks and good luck

The areas you mentioned above are very nice. Scarsdale & Bronville are very expensive. If you end up purchasing there, make sure you buy a house within those 2 school districts as you may sometimes get a house with a scarsdale or bronxville po and yonkers schools (bad).
I live in Ardsley and while the school system is top notch, it does not have a "town" like the other 3 areas you mentioned.
Do you have to be near a Whole Foods? There is one in White Plains but in my opinion, Trader Joes or Mrs Green's (both in Scarsdale) are just as good if not better.

Trader Joes and Mrs. Green's are in Eastchester, not Scarsdale. And I highly recommend Eastchester. SAT scores are lower than Ardsley's, but that's a reflection of the economic diversity of the community, NOT an inferior school district. We have our own country club with an 18-hole golf course, eight tennis courts and five pools, terrific non-mall shopping anchored by Lord and Taylor, and a great commute to NYC from either the Scarsdale or Crestwood station.
Bronxville, hands down, is the best community in Westchester County. But can you afford it?

Trader Joes has a SCARSDALE address 727 White Plains Road, Scarsdale NY although they are technically located in Eastchester on Rt 22 right near the Scarsdale border.

There is also a Trader Joes in Hartsdale on Central Park Ave.

Trader Joes is not technically located in Eastchester. It is located in Eastchester. 100% of the school and town taxes go to Eastchester. Scarsdale does not get a penny. The Scarsale mailing address encompasses parts of Eastchester, New Rochelle, Greenburgh and Yonkers.

Sounds like you are a doctor. Is that correct?
another vote here for Bronxville, which many of us wouldn't afford of course

Thanks for all the replies. I'm not sure if it has to be a Whole Foods, I would have to ask my wife. Trader Joe's is ok. Don't know the other one yet. And yes, I'm a doctor. Doesn't mean I can afford Bronxville, but I will definitely check.
Thanks again.

moving to westchester
you have probably had plenty of responses by now, but there is another whole foods in greenwich ct, and if you choose to live along the soundshore area, you would take that right up 95, its about 10min door to door from my house in mamaroneck(ry). You might want to check out where i live, its on a pennisnula in the town of rye, but village of mamaroneck, rye neck schools, on the list of the best 100 in the country. Larchmont/mamaroneck high, etc is a large area and school. However, ryeneck is very appealing beacuse its like a private school. Fortunately, shoreacres.org, is kinda a kept secret. Not transient like other neighborhoods. We have our own beach club, boating, pools, etc. Its like leave it to beaver summer camp in the summer for kids, etc. Janna
