Thank you John70. I wouldnt mind CHappaqua, but I wont be able to handle the daily commute to downtown Manhattan...as a working mom, I'd rather spend extra hour/day with my kid... Another reason why Scarsdale was so attractive to us

Check out Irvington. We chose it over Scarsdale. Less intense. Definitely affluent, but with more income diversity than Scarsdale. Outstanding schools. A more enjoyable commute (riding along the Hudson). Walkable downtown with great restaurants. Two incredible riverfront parks, plus lots of other parks and open space. And, in my personal opinion, most parts of Irvington are more aesthetically pleasing than Edgewood (more trees, river views, old stone walls). Good luck to you.

I grew up in a rivertown and my parents were probably in the bottom half to quartile income-wise. I call this 'relative poverty' in that you are upper middle class and have all your needs met but everyone else seems to have a lot more money.

Scarsdale will have a very large tail of people making considerably more than you. Our household income is a fair bit more than yours and I'd worry about being relatively poor in Scarsdale. Others might disagree but I'm very sensitive to it based growing up and never going to Europe or even on a plane for vacations. Don't get me wrong, my childhood was just fine but I definitely was aware that I didn't have the cool shoes and clothes and our house was tiny compared to many of my friends. If that really is something you're sensitive about then you might want to consider another town

We live in Eastchester which is imperfect but where our income is in the top half, maybe top quartile. We're very comfortable there from that perspective. We'd be in relative poverty in either Bronxville or Scarsdale.

Tomverlaine and NYGirl128, thank you for sharing your thoughts -- this is very, very helpful.

Oh I'm so curious where young white collar couples with their early to mid career salaries live these days...

Its tough around here with no easy answer. My commute is only to White Plains most days. Makes a world of difference. I miss the City but not the commute. I like Irvington too but its also not cheap and there never seems to be much inventory.

If you find something close to the station, it's not bad at all. Five minute drive and 50-minute train ride. In Scarsdale, depending where you are, you could have a 15-minute drive with a 30-minute train ride. It's would not be that different.

True - if you are close to the train station you are looking at 40 mins more to your daily commute over Scarsdale - 20 mins each way on Metro North. Depending upon which side of Chappaqua you live, you can also head into the city from the North White Plains train station which is a 35 min ish express to GCT.
