Researching housing options for my family. I generally am looking at a 30-40 minute commute max north from Eastchester (Westchester) where I work. Can anyone tell me generally which highways have the least amount of traffic coming southbound from upper westchester and also then back up. I would generally leave for work around 8am in the morning and go back home at 7pm. We'll probably choose a town close to one of the following highways: Sprain Brook, 87, Saw Mill, Bronx River/Taconic, Hutchinson, Merrit, 95? I already know that the Merrit and 95 have a lot of traffic. How about the others? Thanks!
at 7PM you should have no problem going home on any of the highways. I leave around 8AM as well to go from Yorktown to Rye and find I oftentimes take 684, which is longer than the Taconic but far less congested. (I only live a half mile TO the Taconic and 15 minutes to 684 to give you an idea of how much better it is!)
The Sprain can be fine, but since exits are further apart, can put you in a pickle when there IS a tie-up.
Not to be go generally dismissive, but I'd avoid living near a "River Parkway". They're older, windier and flood quickly

I've lived near the BRP and SMRP... you are absolutely correct. I'd avoid the Saw Mill when going/coming from work (since 87 also worked to get me where I needed to be).

^^^This. I684 was the only one you missed and it's by far the best. By far. Your criteria would comfortably put you up in Bedford, Katonah or maybe Somers/the Salems. Maybe parts of Pound Ridge too (adjoining Bedford Village).
