We are moving to NY from Texas. We are a professional couple with two kids, ages 2 and 6, after much research and househunting, we think Harrison is the right place for us. We are looking for a place that has a good community, meaning people are nice and one can have a social life. Schools are also super important, especially elementary and middle school. Highschool is not as important now as we are still years away from it. If you live or have lived in Harrison, what do you think? Thanks!!!!
I know many families who live and Harrison and love it. They live in the Sterling Ridge section (north of Union Ave and west of Harrison Ave/North Street) and the kids attend Harrison Avenue School and LMK Middle School. I have heard nothing but good things about the schools. And in general, you get more house for your money in Harrison. You're also close to many other towns in which to shop, dine, etc. If you have any specific questions let me know!
Thank you streetsmart for your response. I am looking to learn if - even if it is predominantly white - the environment is somewhat laid back, not keeping up with the Joneses, but "anything goes" type of vibe.... We are a hispanic family and have lived in Mexico and London, now Texas and next NY... we found a nice place close to the train station so it is convenient for commute.... so the question is about the diversity of the area, not so much the ethnicities but the vibe... Also, I am a working mom and I hope there are many other working moms around. Thanks again!
Harrison is definitely much more laid back than other towns. And has been said on this board many times before, people in Westchester don't care whether you are white, black, brown, red, or blue, if you have the income to afford the area and are well-educated and reasonably sophisticated/worldly you will be accepted no questions asked. Harrison is a great combination of good schools, excellent price points for housing, and amenities without the high-stress atmosphere of a Scarsdale or Bronxville.
