My girlfriend and I are looking for townhouses/apartments/condos in either Tarrytown or lower Rockland (need to be somewhat close to the bridge) My girlfriend works in lower Westchester and I work in Central Valley so we need something in the middle to allow for decent work commutes. Looking for towns with a decent nightlife (bars, restaurants, etc). It would be nice to keep both commutes under an hour but at the same time would like to live in a nice area. Any advice is greatly appreciated

Down the road we are looking to buy between 250-350k. Obviously for starters we would rent. Anything between 1500-2000 a month.

If nightlife is key go with White Plains.

How is Tarrytown or anything around there. Even a town with a strip of restaurants / bars to hang out in would be sufficient. We just don't want to be in an area with nothing around.

Then it's fine. You may want to look at commuting via Bear Mountain Bridge (cheaper tolls). Tappan Zee rush hour is tough.

personally, i think the "nightlife" is pretty horrible across the board in Westchester County. tarrytown does have some cool bars and restaurants but real nightlife is hard to come by in these parts.

Ignoring your budget, I think Tarrywon would be a perfect spot for you.

I would advise staying on the east side of the bridge as it would be going against traffic and would be a much easier commute than coming from the west. That is assuming you commute in the mornings and afternoon like everyone else. If you had a night job, the opposite would be true.

Thats barely enough to rent a studio/1 bedroom in White plains. Also, you would not be able to buy a house at that price in the area you are looking at. To get a good idea of how difficult buying a house will be, I would advise you to look at house prices in White Plains and even go to an open house or two.

As far as renting, I think it will be possible to find something, but I would ignore the commuting issue a bit. Like I said, Tarrytown would be perfect fit for your other requirements but I don't see you finding an apartment for $2k there. Good luck.
