The FDR park off the Taconic Parkway has a nice pool and it's only about 10 - 15 minutes ride. Also, there is a swim club off of 100 in Millwood with a fresh water pond. If you look there are homes that do have pond/lake rights.

Living in New Castle

We've looked at nearly every town in Westchester, and don't think that Southern Westchester is for us. For houses in our price range ($1.25 mill), you can't seem to get any space and are on top of your neighbors.
We really love Chappaqua, with its larger lot sizes (1+ acres) and 45 min train ride. We also like Greenwich (though the lot size would be smaller perhaps).
So, both of these towns are similar commutes (Greenwich train may be a few minutes shorter), good schools, etc. Just wondering if anyone else out there happened to go through a similar decision process and where you may have come out.
Any thoughts greatly appreciated.

Chappaqua and Millwood are Hamlets in the town of New Castle. I live in Millwood and my children attend Horace Greeley High School. My children's classmates are mainly white. I would estimate the population is 5% "other". This town has a very high standard of living, so much that my husband and I have often questioned whether or not it was worth staying. The town has some low income housing and does make an effort to do more for those who struggle. The town is also in tune with the needs of growing families and is currently building new soccer fields on land they acquired. At the same time the town has bought land to leave as open space. In the 13 years I have lived in this town I have met and befriended people from all across the spectrum: public servants, stay-at-home moms who have hired help and spend their days going to the gym and shopping, volunteers at charitable organizations, white collar workers who don't return home from the city until 9pm at night on a regular basis, small business owners, and many others. The people of this town are very much involved in the decision making and are not afraid to let themselves be heard. Just as you would any place you live, I spend my time with those whom I have something in common. My children are involved in activities that introduce them to these many types of people. Although most of children's friends are white, my son has a good friend who is a Jehovah's Witness while one of my daughter's friends is African American. I grew up on Long Island with tract housing. I loved where I grew up but chose to raise my kids "in the country." Through all the trials and tribulations of living in such a place, I believe we are all here to provide our children with the opportunity to grow up in an ideal setting in a well-respected school system. Although it is not always easy for my husband and I to afford living here, we firmly believe we are providing the best for our children.

Chappaqua (actually the Town of New Castle) has an amazing library that recently went through a renovation. They have great programs for children and adults. There is AYSO soccer, baseball/softball, lacrosse, and basketball run through the town. There is no town pool, however, there are pool clubs that have tennis courts and playgrounds.

And you're right, you can't beat the Scarsdale pool.

When you say "Scarsdale Pool" are you talking about the one in Saxon Woods? ... because that's a county pool. Or is there one specific to Scarsdale?

Scarsdale has its own municipal pool for Scarsdale residents only. It is located on Mamaroneck Road.
