We are an Irish Catholic family currently living in Brooklyn. We have looked at homes in Armonk and clearly we would be in the minority. What towns have an active Catholic Community? Pelham Manor? Larchmont? River towns? We are also considering sending our boys to Catholic School - so we aren't totally school district dependent. I stay home and my husband works in the city. Our budget is $2mil max and priced out of Bronxville. How about Scarsdale? There seems to be a ton of inventory.
This ain't rocket science. Look in the phone book or on line for Catholic schools in the communities where you're interested in buying. Catholic school = active Catholic community.
I am confused why an Irish Catholic with enough money to buy in Westchester couldn't figure that out himself/herself.
Substantial Irish Catholic population in the Crestwood area of Yonkers, you can send kids to Catholic school. Also, Pleasantville has an Irish Catholic presence.
I grew up in Ardsley in the 1990s and 2000s, and after a stint living in Canada, I am temporarily back in Ardsley.
I am Italian-Catholic and went to the public schools and OLPH Church. We were outnumbered on all sides by Jewish families, all my best friends were/are Jewish and I have even grown a taste preference for corned beef and knishes over pasta and Parmesan. Allot of the Jewish families weren't to fond of non-Jewish families, but there never was any real visible animosity.
Eastchester is super Italian/Irish and heavily Catholic, almost moved there. Crestwood in Yonkers too, not all of YO is bad. Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow are two areas that are rather Celtic as is Dobbs Ferry.
If you really want an all Irish area stay in NYC and go to Woodlawn in the Bronx.
