I'm trying to get a handle on the best source for determining whether a property lies in a flood zone. I have consulted the Mapping Westchester County web site, the FEMA web site, and the National Flood Insurance Program web site. They seem to be using different data. The FEMA web site is also really, really difficult to use, unsurprisingly. Does anyone know which of these sources is the best one for determining whether I would need to purchase flood insurance in order to qualify for a mortgage? Is there another source that I should consult. Thanks in advance.
I saw flood zone maps in the Mamaroneck village building department office, right up on the wall in the hallway. You might want to visit the building department of the town where the house is and just look around and/or ask.
every town in the building dept has a flood plain manager who can tell you which houses are in a flood zone what what is zone.
