Question Moving from GA to Westchester, need good schools and reasonable commute to NYC

My husband works on Park Ave in Manhattan and lives in Ossining . Our children( 8 yrs. and infant) and I will be joining him in June. My question is where is the best place for us to move? I haven't been too impressed with Ossining and have heard negative things about their school district there, but we do like the over all areas along the Hudson river(metro north access). Ive looked into Yorktown Heights and Peekskill but am wondering if there arnt any better options in regards to school, shopping, etc.. We will be renting because we don't know how long we'll be in the area. Any input would be appreciated * We're looking for a commute time for an hour or less.
Thanks

We're looking to spend no more than $1900/mo for a 3BR. From what I've noticed, the farther from the city you go the more realistic that is for a decent place! ( safe area, no special programs or govt housing) We also prefer single family home over multi family ones.
