Looking at some houses in Pelham Manor. We live in the Bronx now and are looking to relocate for schools for the kids - my son will be starting K in September.

Anyone have experience with the Prospect Hill elementary school? Also any info on the middle and high school would be appreciated since we would plan on staying through the kids schooling....

Another concern my husband has is that Pelham doesn't have a town pool/recreation center like some towns do. Are there parks specific to Pelham? Does living in Pelham give you access to other Westchester Parks? What do most of the kids do during summer vacations? We liked the idea of a town like Harrison with its own pool but love the ease of the commute from Pelham even more.

Thanks in advance!

Pelham is a very well regarded town, with good but non-pressure cooker schools. A lot of dual income households and a relatively down to earth feel for a pretty wealthy town. The homes in Pelham Manor seem to get you more bang for your buck versus Pelham Heights, but they are far from the train.

I can't provide any information about the parks or specific schools there. I do know that if you're commuting on metro north, Pelham is notorious for having an 8 plus year waiting list to get train station parking. So you need to either take a taxi from Pelham Manor every day or have someone drop you off, which can be a burden and an expense. I have a very good friend who lives in Pelham Heights maybe 8 blocks from the train station, and he loves it there. We looked closely at Pelham among other places (White Plains, Dobbs Ferry and Hastings) before ending up in the Mamaroneck district. All 5 are great options.

1. Town parks are lacking compared to other sound shore towns. Call town hall or look at town website for details.
2. yes, all county parks. Look at county website.
3. Private clubs - NYAC, Pelham Country Club, Huguenot Yacht Club, other local shore clubs (Shenorock in Rye was historically popular with Pelhamites). Sleep-away camps, etc etc.
