I am considering moving to New Rochelle or Portchester. Can anybody assist me on comparing the two. Any info such as safety, college enrollment, culture, reputation etc would be helpful. Thanks in advance.

New Rochelle is the better high school I think. I don't know about the college enrollment completely but I know New Rochelle does send kids to top colleges. I'm not sure if Port Chester does as well. Both schools are reasonably safe. I'm not sure what you mean by culture, but Port Chester is roughly 80% Hispanic while New Rochelle is more diverse.

Thanks J8. I meant culture more in the sense of subculture. For example I have head that Portchester's band has a good reputation and sports is very important for NR.

Ahh, I see. I have heard that Port Chester has a great marching band. Sports are definitely important at New Rochelle and they have a fantastic basketball team, but it's not a school where sports are the only things people care about.

And I take back what I said about New Rochelle being better. New Rochelle does better than 51% of schools and Port Chester does better than 49%. This I assume can be explained by the wealth difference (40% free or reduced lunch at NR to 60% at PC).

I'm not sure how set you are on New Rochelle and Port Chester, but if your looking for good school districts in affordable (by NYC area standards) areas, I would check out Mamaroneck and Rye Neck. Both have houses going for 300-400k and have chools that are nationally ranked. Eastchester is a bit more expensive, but also has a great school district.
